antique-19th-century-french-bronze-07033
Antique 19th Century French Bronze Bacchanal Tazza with Leaping Panther Handles, Cherub Frieze and Grape Clusters, Marble Base

Two panthers, the sacred animals of Bacchus, leap up to form the handles of this bronze tazza, their bodies stretched and their paws gripping the rim, as if about to spring into the bowl. Below each one hangs a vine leaf with a heavy cluster of grapes. Around the side of the bowl runs a playful bacchanal: chubby cherubs lounge and tumble together, one lifting a cup, others reaching for bunches of grapes, beside a panther and draped hangings, all framed by bands of beading. The bowl rests on a stem that flares into a fan of fluted leaves above a beaded foot, set on a square block of white marble. The warm golden bronze has darker tones in the hollows. At over 3 kg, it’s a substantial piece for a dining table, a sideboard or a library.

Condition: Good Antique Condition.

Dimensions & Materials

Height: 6.7 in (17 cm)
Diameter: 8.7 in (22 cm)
Weight: 7.5 lb (3.4 kg)
Material: Bronze, white marble base
Includes: One tazza

Historical Period: Napoleon III, Bacchic Neoclassical; circa late 19th century.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
