pair-of-antique-louis-xv-style-gilt-89178
Pair of Antique Louis XV Style Gilt Bronze Mirrored Candle Sconces, Rocaille Frames with Removable Arms, Girandoles, Late 1800s

A small mirror glows at the heart of each of these girandoles, framed in a riot of gilt bronze rocaille: curling C-scrolls, pierced shell work, acanthus flames rising at the crest and trailing to a leafy point below. A single scrolled arm swings out from the base of the frame to a deep candle cup, lattice-chased and set on a wide, scalloped drip pan, with a small tasselled drop hanging beside it. When a candle is lit, the mirror catches the flame and doubles the light, just as these sconces were designed to do in 18th-century salons. The pair is mirrored, so the arms reach outward when hung either side of a fireplace or doorway. The arms are removable for easy cleaning.

Condition: Good Antique Condition.

Dimensions & Materials (each sconce)

Height: 10.6 in (27 cm)
Width: 5.1 in (13 cm)
Depth: 6.7 in (17 cm)
Weight (pair): 3.9 lb (1.75 kg)
Material: Gilt bronze, mirror glass
Includes: Two mirrored candle sconces with removable arms

Historical Period: Louis XV revival (Rocaille); circa late 19th century.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
