vintage-black-forest-hand-carved-wood-24733
Vintage Black Forest Hand-Carved Wood Bellowing Red Deer Stag, Glass Eyes, Removable Antlers, Rutting Call Sculpture, Cabin Decor

Head thrown back and mouth wide open, this stag is calling out across the forest in the autumn rut, the deep bellowing roar the French call “le brame”. His great branching antlers sweep up and back, and his thick ruff of fur is carved in dense, rippling strokes around the neck and chest, while the body is shaped in broad, faceted knife cuts. Small glass eyes give him a bright, lifelike gaze. The antlers are carved separately and fit into sockets on the head. He stands foursquare on a naturalistic oval base, its edges left with a textured chisel finish. The warm brown wood has a soft, lived-in patina. It’s a striking piece for a hunting lodge, a cabin, a study or a mantel.

Condition: Good Vintage Condition, with wear to the patina.

Dimensions & Materials

Height with antlers: 11 in (28 cm)
Base: 8.7 x 3.1 in (22 x 8 cm)
Material: Hand-carved wood, glass eyes
Includes: One sculpture with two removable antlers

Historical Period: Black Forest and Alpine carving tradition; circa early to mid-20th century.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
