vintage-french-art-deco-glazed-ceramic-44375
Vintage French Art Deco Glazed Ceramic Leaping Borzoi Sculpture, Sighthound Over Grasses on Plinth Base, 1920s-30s Faience

Stretched out at full speed, this sighthound leaps clear over a clump of tall grasses, his long narrow muzzle reaching forward and his slender body drawn into one sweeping Art Deco line from nose to curled tail. He’s glazed in rich, glossy shades of amber, tan and russet, with darker shading along the back and paler cream on the belly and paws. The grasses and ground below are a deep sea-green, all set on a rectangular plinth glazed in dark chocolate brown. Faience animals like this were made in the potteries around Tours during the Art Deco years, and they still bring colour and movement to a mantel, a sideboard or a shelf. It’s a joyful piece for anyone who loves borzois, greyhounds or 1930s design.

Condition: Good Vintage Condition.

Dimensions & Materials

Height: 11.6 in (29.5 cm)
Length: 16.9 in (43 cm)
Material: Glazed ceramic (faience)
Includes: One sculpture

Historical Period: Art Deco; circa 1920s–1930s.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
