antique-19th-century-gilt-bronze-dog-fob-98302
Antique 19th Century Gilt Bronze Dog Fob Seal with Carnelian Matrix, Seated Spaniel Begging, Watch Chain Charm or Pendant

A little spaniel sits up and begs on top of this fob seal, one front paw lifted and his head raised hopefully, his long feathered ears and curly coat finely chased in gilt metal. A small ring on his back once hung the seal from a gentleman’s watch chain or a lady’s châtelaine, so it was always close at hand for sealing letters with hot wax. He sits on an oval gilt mount set with a polished slab of carnelian, a translucent red-orange stone that glows like an ember when the light passes through it. Tiny and perfectly made, it’s a delightful piece for a seal collector, or charming worn today as a pendant or watch charm.

Condition: Good Antique Condition.

Dimensions & Materials

Height: 1.3 in (3.2 cm)
Material: Gilt bronze or brass, carnelian matrix
Includes: One fob seal with suspension ring

Historical Period: 19th century; circa 1830–1870.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
