antique-19th-century-patinated-bronze-23265
Antique 19th Century Patinated Bronze Lidded Grand Tour Urn with Ivy Leaf Relief and Berry Finial on Green Marble Base

Trailing ivy climbs all over this little two-handled cup. The leaves are cast in deep relief, curling and overlapping around the bowl, while tiny berries cluster between them and spill onto the domed lid. A finial of berries and leaves crowns the lid, and two graceful scroll handles with flat thumb rests rise on either side. The form recalls the silver drinking cups of ancient Rome that travellers admired on the Grand Tour, recreated in bronze for the cabinets and writing desks of 19th-century collectors. A dark, antique brown patina covers the bronze, and the cup stands on a gadrooned pedestal set into a round base of green veined marble. It’s a lovely piece for a desk, a bookshelf, or for keeping small treasures.

Condition: Good Antique Condition, with a natural dark patina and light wear consistent with age, as pictured.

Dimensions & Materials

Height: 6.3 in (16 cm)
Material: Patinated bronze, green veined marble base
Includes: One lidded cup

Historical Period: Grand Tour, Neoclassical; circa 19th century.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
