antique-bronze-three-arm-wall-sconce-oak-99126
Antique Bronze Three-Arm Wall Sconce, Oak Leaf and Acorn Decor, Louis XVI Style, Aged Candle Sleeves

Oak leaves and little clusters of acorns wind along the arms of this sconce, as if a branch had been brought in from the woods and cast in metal. It's a warm, rustic-elegant light for a study, a dining room or a country house.

The sconce is a single wall light with three lights. A central stem ends in an oak-leaf drop. From it, two curling arms sweep out, each decorated with oak leaves and acorns, to hold the side lights, and a third light rises from the centre on a pair of small scrolls. Each light sits in a twisting leafy cup above a drip pan shaped like a spray of oak leaves, and holds an old candle sleeve. A slim horizontal bar links the three cups at the top. Oak leaves and acorns were a favourite of French country-house and hunting-lodge decoration. The oak stood for strength and long life, and the motif called to mind the great forests where the royal hunts were held.

The sconce is in good vintage condition. The finish shows wear and patches of green verdigris, and the candle sleeves are discoloured. The old cloth-covered wiring reaches us as found. It will be fully rewired in our workshop, ready for a long new life on the wall. Hang it above a sideboard, beside a fireplace or at the end of a corridor.

Acorn-and-oak sconce: a vintage Louis XV style three-light bronze-tone wall sconce with oak leaves, acorns and leafy drip pans, rewired in our workshop and ready to install.

DETAILS

Size: H 28 cm (11.0 in) · W 28 cm (11.0 in)
Material: bronze-tone metal, candle sleeves
Style-Period: Louis XV style · early 20th century
Shipping: professionally packed, fully insured, worldwide · we handle the paperwork and pay all import duties · nothing to settle on delivery
Electrical: fully rewired in our workshop before dispatch · delivered working and ready to install · wall installation by a qualified electrician recommended
Condition: good vintage condition · wear to the finish, with patches of green verdigris · candle sleeves discoloured
Lampshade: Sold without shades — small clip-on shades suit it
Returns: accepted within 30 days
Sold as: a single sconce
