antique-french-animalier-bronze-pheasant-79165
Antique French Animalier Bronze Pheasant by Edouard Delabrierre, Signed, Walking Game Bird on Leafy Oval Base, 19th C

Neck stretched forward and head raised, this pheasant steps cautiously across a rocky patch of ground, as if it has just caught a sound in the undergrowth. Paul-Édouard Delabrierre, one of the leading French animaliers of the 19th century, captured the bird’s alert, wary movement beautifully. The scaled feathers of the back, the barred plumes of the long tail and the clawed feet are all crisply chased. Broad leaves curl up around the naturalistic oval base, which carries the sculptor’s cast signature. The bronze has a soft, silvery-golden sheen with darker tones in the recesses. Small and finely detailed, it’s a lovely piece for a desk, a library shelf or a country-house study, and a fine gift for a hunter or bird lover.

Condition: Good Antique Condition, with a natural patina and light wear to the high points consistent with age, as pictured.

Dimensions & Materials

Length: 6.5 in (16.5 cm)
Height: 4.7 in (12 cm)
Width: 2.4 in (6 cm)
Material: Bronze
Includes: One sculpture

Historical Period: French animalier; circa late 19th century.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
