All around, enamelled brass straps fold over the edges like the bindings of a travelling trunk, worked in sage green, soft pink and cream between gilt scrolls, with round flower bosses at the corners. A matching enamelled escutcheon frames the keyhole on the front. The ebonized wood has a deep, glossy black finish, and inside the lid and base are lined in tufted purple silk. Made at the height of France’s fascination with ancient Egypt, it still carries part of its original maker’s label underneath. It’s a lovely keeper for jewellery, letters or small treasures.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCondition: Good Antique Condition.
