gilt-and-silvered-metal-wall-sconce-21564
Gilt and Silvered Metal Wall Sconce, Hand-Form Candle Arm, Fluted Backplate

The hand-form candle holder is one of the more distinctive motifs in traditional wall lighting, a closed fist gripping the candle arm as though caught mid-gesture. Set against a fluted, radiating backplate, the figural detail gives an otherwise simple single-arm sconce real character, the kind of piece that reads as a small sculpture as much as a light fitting.

This sconce is worked in a combination of gilt and silvered metal, a closed fist rendered in gilt tones gripping a slender arm that rises to the socket, mounted on a fluted, sunburst-patterned backplate in a silvered finish. Note how the two metal tones are used to separate the figural and architectural elements of the piece — the warm gilt hand against the cooler silvered backplate — rather than finishing the whole sconce in a single tone. The sconce is fitted with a pleated white fabric shade.

The piece reaches us in good condition. As a lighting piece, it will be fully rewired through our workshop, delivered working and ready to use, fitted with a B22 socket as supplied. Hung singly or as an accent piece in an entryway or hallway, its figural hand detail makes it a genuine conversation piece.

Worked in gilt and silvered metal, the sconce stands 29 cm high with shade, measures 11 cm wide with shade, projects 12 cm from the wall with shade, with a 9 cm backplate. Every piece we send is professionally packed by hand, fully insured, and shipped worldwide with all import duties and tariffs already paid on our side — there is nothing further for you to settle when it arrives.

DETAILS:
Size: height with shade 29 cm / 11.4 in, width with shade 11 cm / 4.3 in, projection with shade 12 cm / 4.7 in, backplate 9 cm / 3.5 in — roughly the height of a standard drinking glass
Material: gilt metal, silvered metal
Style-Period: 1930s france
Shipping: professionally packed by hand, fully insured, worldwide — we handle the paperwork, with all import duties and tariffs paid by us; nothing to settle on delivery
Electrical: fully rewired and checked through our workshop before dispatch, delivered working and ready to use
Condition: good condition
Lampshade: original pleated fabric shade included and fixed as part of the sconce
Returns: accepted within 30 days
