pair-of-antique-19th-century-gilt-bronze-63430
Pair of Antique 19th Century Gilt Bronze Rococo Candlesticks, Rocaille Shell Bases, Flower Garland Stems, Removable Bobeches

Every surface of these little candlesticks swirls with movement. Each base rises in a fan of fluted shells and curling rocaille scrolls, set against a finely stippled ground. A twisting stem, banded with garlands of flowers and acanthus, leads up to the candle cup, and on top sits a removable bobeche with a wavy, scrolled rim like a frilled petal to catch the wax. The gilding glows a rich, warm gold that picks out every ridge of the chasing. Compact but lavish, they bring French Rococo glamour to a dining table, a mantel or a dressing table.

Condition: Very Good Antique Condition, with a bright gilt finish and light verdigris inside the candle cups, as pictured.

Dimensions & Materials (each candlestick)

Height: 6.9 in (17.5 cm)
Base diameter: 4.3 in (11 cm)
Material: Gilt bronze
Includes: Two candlesticks with removable bobeches

Historical Period: Louis XV revival (Rococo); circa 19th century.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
