pair-of-antique-bronze-figures-of-country-24189
Pair of Antique Bronze Figures of Country Children, Girl in Bonnet and Boy Shading His Eyes, on Turned Bases, circa 1900

Two country children seem to have paused in the middle of a summer’s day. The girl, in a wide-brimmed bonnet, puff-sleeved blouse and full skirt, raises her hands to her face as if twisting a ribbon or peering at something tiny between her fingers. The boy, in a waistcoat, rolled sleeves and knickerbockers tucked into boots, shades his eyes with one hand to look into the distance, a short stick or switch in the other. The modelling is full of small details, from the folds of the fabric to the buttons on his waistcoat, under a deep, dark patina. Each stands on a round turned base, and together they make a charming pair for a mantel, a bookshelf or a cabinet.

Condition: Good Antique Condition, with a dark, natural patina and wear consistent with age, as pictured.

Dimensions & Materials (each figure)

Height without base: 4.9 in (12.5 cm)
Material: Bronze, turned base
Includes: Two figures on bases

Historical Period: French School genre sculpture; circa 1890–1910.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
