pair-of-antique-napoleon-iii-bronze-81063
Pair of Antique Napoleon III Bronze Mirrored Girandoles, Three-Light Candle Sconces with Crowned Portrait Medallions, Cherubs

Two winged cherubs hold up a crowned oval medallion at the crest of each of these girandoles. The medallions carry the profile portraits of bearded gentlemen in ruffed collars, in the manner of Renaissance kings. Below, a rectangular bevelled mirror sits within a deep frame of overlapping acanthus leaves edged with rope-twist borders. A carved satyr mask at the base sends out three scrolling arms, curling with leaves and rosettes, each ending in a wide drip pan and a palmette-chased candle cup. By candlelight, the bevelled glass catches and multiplies every flame. A warm, mellow brown patina covers the bronze, rubbed to gold on the high points. They’re a dramatic, characterful pair for either side of a fireplace, a long dining wall or a library.

Condition: Good Antique Condition, with a natural brown patina and light wear to the high points consistent with age.

Dimensions & Materials (each sconce)

Overall height: 18.3 in (46.5 cm)
Frame height with crest: 13.4 in (34 cm)
Frame: 10.1 x 8.3 in (25.7 x 21 cm)
Width across arms: 9.1 in (23 cm)
Material: Patinated bronze, beveled mirror glass
Includes: Two three-light mirrored candle sconces

Historical Period: Napoleon III, Renaissance revival; circa 1850–1870.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
