pair-of-antique-napoleon-iii-gilt-bronze-63307
Pair of Antique Napoleon III Gilt Bronze Faun Candelabra, Young Satyrs Holding Laurel Garland Arms, White Marble Bases

A young faun, the mischievous goat-legged companion of Bacchus, stands on a little grassy mound on each of these candelabra. His curly head is crowned with vine leaves, and he grins as he holds a long laurel garland across his body like a yoke. Each end of the garland curves up into a candle cup with a leaf-cast bowl and a beaded rim. The fauns’ shaggy legs and cloven hooves are finely chased in bright gilding. They stand on white marble plinths framed in gilt leaf mouldings, with a panel of copper-toned flowering branches on each side and small gilt toupie feet. Charming and playful in the manner of the 18th-century sculptor Clodion, they bring a touch of Bacchic fun to a dinner table or mantel.

Condition: Good Antique Condition, with old candle wax to be cleaned from the arms and cups, and light wear consistent with age, as pictured.

Dimensions & Materials (each candelabrum)

Height: 8.3 in (21 cm)
Width: 7.5 in (19 cm)
Weight (pair): about 7.7 lb (3.5 kg)
Material: Gilt bronze, white marble, copper-tone mounts
Includes: Two two-light candelabra

Historical Period: Napoleon III; circa 1850–1870.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
