pair-of-antique-restauration-era-cherub-92409
Pair of Antique Restauration Era Cherub Candlesticks, Bronze Putti Holding Brass Cups on Lion Paw Tripod Bases, 19th Century

A small cherub balances on one tiptoe on each of these candlesticks, arms raised high to hold up the candle cup, a sash slung across his chest and one leg kicked up behind as if dancing. The children are cast in dark patinated bronze, which sets them off against the warm brass of the turned cups and knops above and below. Each stands on a tripod of three lion’s paw feet wrapped in leaves, on a triangular base with gently curved sides. The pair isn’t strictly identical: one has a square drip pan and a domed, embossed knop beneath the cherub, while the other has a plain turned knop and no drip pan. That gives them the charm of a companion pair assembled over time. They’re delightful on a mantel, a dressing table or a candlelit dinner table.

Condition: Good Antique Condition, with a natural patina and wear consistent with age. The two candlesticks differ slightly: one has a square drip pan and a domed knop, the other a plain knop and no drip pan, as pictured.

Materials (each candlestick)

Material: Patinated bronze cherubs, brass cups and knops, spelter base
Includes: Two candlesticks

Historical Period: Restauration style; circa 19th century.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
