pair-of-antique-restauration-period-39703
Pair of Antique Restauration Period Patinated Bronze Candlesticks, Fluted Columns with Palmettes and Lion Paw Feet, 1815-1830

Tall and stately, these flambeaux follow the grand neoclassical style of France after Napoleon. Each stands on a triangular plinth with gently curved sides, raised on three lion’s paw feet wrapped in sweeping acanthus leaves. From there, the column rises through a cuff of feathery leaves into a long fluted shaft. At the top, a crown of palmettes holds a ribbed gilt candle cup. Fine gilt beaded rings mark each section, catching the light against the deep, dark patina, almost black with a soft sheen. At nearly 13 inches tall and with real weight in the hand, they make a dramatic pair for a mantel, a sideboard or a candlelit dinner table.

Condition: Good Antique Condition, with a dark natural patina and light signs of use consistent with age.
