Carriage lanterns usually had a spring inside the tube that pushed the candle up as it burned down, so the flame stayed level with the glass the whole night.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe pair is in very good antique condition, with one mounting bracket missing. They have stayed together for well over a century and are ready to hang again.
