pair-of-vintage-large-louis-xvi-style-99768
Pair of Vintage Large Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze Wall Sconces, Quiver of Arrows Backplate with Ram Head Arms, Two Lights

The backplate of each sconce is a tall, tapering quiver, packed at the top with the feathered ends of arrows and decorated down its length with panels of stylised leaves and flowers. It finishes below in a crown of water leaves and a little pinecone drop. Halfway down, two finely chased ram heads look out on either side. From their horns, the arms sweep up in elegant S-curves, wrapped in acanthus and beading, to leafy drip pans and fluted cups holding ivory candle sleeves with sculpted drips. The quiver and the ram’s head are two signature motifs of Louis XVI design, and here they’re rendered with real care. Standing over 15 inches tall, these are a generous pair for either side of a mirror, a fireplace or a doorway.

Condition: Good Vintage Condition, with the original gilding in good order and light wear consistent with age.

Dimensions & Materials (each sconce)

Height: 15.4 in (39 cm)
Width: 6.9 in (17.5 cm)
Depth: 4.5 in (11.5 cm)
Weight (pair): 5.5 lb (2.5 kg)
Material: Gilt bronze
Bulb base: 2 x E12 candelabra per sconce
Includes: Two double-arm wall sconces with four candle sleeves

Lampshade: Sold without shades, leaving you free to choose ones that suit your room.

Historical Period: Louis XVI revival style; circa second half of the 20th century.

Electrical: Carefully prepared and professionally rewired by our workshop before dispatch; tested and delivered ready to install.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
