pair-of-vintage-louis-xv-style-gilt-metal-98826
Pair of Vintage Louis XV Style Gilt Metal Wall Sconces, Two Scroll Arms, Leaf Cups and Candle Sleeves

The Louis XV style brought movement and grace to French interiors. Instead of straight lines, designers used scrolls, curling leaves and shell-like shapes, so that even a simple wall light seemed to flow. Wall sconces in this style were made for salons and bedrooms throughout the eighteenth century, and they have been reproduced and loved ever since.

This pair of wall sconces is in that Louis XV style. Each one has a central body cast with leafy scrolls, rising to a small flame-shaped finial at the top, a classical symbol of light. Below, a pendant drop finishes the base. Two curving arms, decorated with scrolls and leaves, sweep out to each side to hold leaf-edged bobèches with candle-style sleeves. The warm gilt finish brings out every curve of the casting.

The sconces are in very good vintage condition. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use. They bring classic French charm to a dining room, a bedroom, a salon or a hallway.

In short, this is a vintage pair of Louis XV style gilt metal wall sconces, each with two scrolled arms, candle lights and a flame finial.
