It's a small, humorous detail that you notice only on a closer look.

The tray is a narrow oval in brass-tone metal, shaped to look like a woven basket, with a raised rim. At one end sits a small mouse in relief, beside a leafy sprig that runs along the middle. Metal made to look like another material is called trompe-l'oeil, French for "fools the eye". Here the metal is cast to copy basketweave so closely that you can almost feel the reeds. Small trays like this were made to hold hairpins, rings or pen nibs.

The tray is in good vintage condition, with light wear to the metal tone that suits its age. It has been in our care only briefly, and now it's ready to move on. It suits a dressing table for rings, a desk for paper clips, or a bedside table.

Quick recap: an oval brass-tone metal tray with a basketweave surface, a mouse and a leafy sprig in relief.

DETAILS

Size: Length 13.2 cm (5.2 in) · Width 6 cm (2.4 in) — about the length of a ballpoint pen
Material: brass-tone metal
Style-Period: Belle Époque style
Shipping: professionally packed, fully insured, worldwide · we handle the paperwork and pay all import duties · nothing to settle on delivery
Condition: good vintage condition
Returns: accepted within 30 days
