vintage-1970s-pair-of-small-92412
Vintage 1970s Pair of Small Aluminium-Tone and Moulded Glass Wall Sconces with Ball Finials

Each of these little sconces is a round lantern of sparkling moulded glass, belted around the middle with a band of brushed metal pierced with small holes. When lit, they glow all over and throw a ring of tiny light spots onto the wall.

Each sconce has two domes of clear moulded glass, one above and one below, patterned with long faceted leaf shapes. They meet at a brushed aluminium-tone collar with a row of round holes. A small silver-tone ball finial sits at the outer end of each dome, and a short round arm connects the lantern to a rectangular brass-tone backplate. In the 1850s, aluminium was so hard to refine that it was treated as more precious than gold. By the 1960s and 1970s, it had become the light, inexpensive, modern metal of choice for designers who wanted a clean, technical look.

The pair is in very good vintage condition, with clear, intact glass and light wear to the backplates. The old wiring reaches us as found, and both sconces will be fully rewired in our workshop, ready to sparkle for many more years. Hang them either side of a bathroom mirror, along a narrow corridor or beside a bed.

Aluminium-band pair: two small vintage 1970s wall sconces, each with clear moulded glass domes, a pierced aluminium-tone collar and ball finials, rewired in our workshop and ready to install.

DETAILS

Size (each): glass body H approx. 14.5 cm (5.7 in) · backplate H approx. 8.5 cm (3.3 in)
Material: brushed aluminium-tone metal, moulded clear glass, brass-tone backplate
Style-Period: Mid-Century Modern · 1970s
Shipping: professionally packed, fully insured, worldwide · we handle the paperwork and pay all import duties · nothing to settle on delivery
Electrical: fully rewired in our workshop before dispatch · delivered working and ready to install · wall installation by a qualified electrician recommended
Condition: very good vintage condition · light wear to the backplates
Lampshade: Glass shades included · Bulbs not included
Returns: accepted within 30 days
Sold as: a pair
