vintage-art-deco-spelter-borzoi-dog-35365
Vintage Art Deco Spelter Borzoi Dog Sculpture on Black and Cream Marble Base, French Green Patina Hound Statue for Mantel Decor

Front paws up on a block of veined black marble, this borzoi lifts its head with its mouth half open, as if it has just caught a call from across the field. The sculptor caught the long, arched back of the breed, the deep chest and the narrow muzzle. The coat is finely chased along the neck and the plumed tail. A deep green patina gives the spelter the look of old bronze. The dog stands on a stepped base of black and gold Portor-type marble with a cream panel set across the front, a classic Art Deco combination. It suits a mantel, a desk or a bookshelf, and makes a fine gift for anyone who loves sighthounds.

Condition: Good Vintage Condition, with light wear to the patina and small marks to the marble base consistent with age.

Dimensions & Materials

Height: 15.4 in (39 cm)
Length: 15 in (38 cm)
Material: Spelter (zinc alloy) with green patina, marble base
Includes: One sculpture on its marble base

Historical Period: Art Deco; France, circa 1925–1935.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
