It became the emblem of serious work, and it has never really left the desk since.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis banker's lamp, attributed to the 1930s–40s, is a fine example of the type. A long, reeded arm curves up and over from a cast metal base plate with raised decorative borders, set on a canted-corner wooden plinth. At the top sits a half-round metal hood with rounded end caps. The hood is the heart of the design: it directs the light downward onto the desk and keeps glare away from the eyes, and a swivel joint at the foot of the arm lets you tilt it exactly where you need it.
