vintage-brass-table-lamp-base-baluster-40986
Vintage Brass Table Lamp Base, Baluster Candlestick Form with Ball Knop and Tripod Feet, Sold Without Shade, 43 cm

Some of the most enduring lamp designs began life as candlesticks. In the seventeenth century, Dutch and Flemish brass founders made sturdy candlesticks with rounded knops and broad domed bases, shapes so satisfying that they were copied for centuries. When electricity arrived, the same forms were simply fitted with a bulb, and the candlestick lamp became a classic.

This brass table lamp base follows that tradition. A turned column, marked with crisp rings, rises to a round ball-shaped knop at its centre. The knop is a feature of early brass candlesticks, where it gave the hand a secure grip when carrying a light. Below, the column flares into a domed base that stands on three small scrolled feet, a tripod arrangement that keeps it steady. The brass has mellowed into a warm, soft patina.

The lamp base is in very good vintage condition, with the gentle patina of age. Like every lamp we sell, it is checked in our workshop before it is sent, so it arrives ready to use. Topped with a shade of your choice, whether drum, cone or pleated, it suits a sideboard, a desk or a bedside table.

In short, this is a vintage brass table lamp base in a baluster candlestick form, with a ball knop and tripod feet. It is 43 cm tall, sold without a shade, and exactly as pictured.

4. DETAILS

Size: Height 43 cm (16.9 in), including the bulb holder.
