It brings a soft, painted garden onto a table.

The lamp base is shaped as a covered baluster vase in white glazed ceramic. It has a lobed body, a domed cover and a short foot on an octagonal plinth. The decoration shows sprays of pink and red roses with green leaves, between bands of turquoise and red leaf shapes, finished with gilt lines. This pink-rich palette is known as famille rose, "the pink family". It comes from Chinese porcelain made for export to Europe in the 18th century, and French makers later copied it in the style called Compagnie des Indes.

The lamp is in good vintage condition, with small spots of pitting to the glaze in places. It reaches us in working order, and it will be fully rewired in our workshop before dispatch. It has done well in careful hands, and it should go on doing so. It suits a bedroom, a living room side table or a hallway console.

Snapshot: a white glazed ceramic vase lamp base with pink rose sprays, turquoise and red leaf bands and gilt trim.

DETAILS

Size: Height 41 cm (16.1 in) — a little taller than a bowling pin
Material: glazed ceramic, gilt decoration, brass-tone fittings
Style-Period: Compagnie des Indes style · mid 20th century
Shipping: professionally packed, fully insured, worldwide · we handle the paperwork and pay all import duties · nothing to settle on delivery
Electrical: fully rewired in our workshop before dispatch · US, UK or EU plug fitted at no extra charge · delivered working and ready to use
Condition: good vintage condition · small spots of pitting to the glaze in places
Lampshade: Sold without a shade — leaving you free to choose one that suits your room
Returns: accepted within 30 days
