vintage-empire-consulat-style-candlestick-31418
Vintage Empire Consulat Style Candlestick Table Lamp, Silver-Tone Metal with Leaf Bands, Attributed 19th Century, Sold Without Shade

Between the Revolution and the Empire, France was briefly governed by three Consuls, with Napoleon Bonaparte as First Consul from 1799 until he crowned himself Emperor in 1804. The style of those few years, known as Consulat, bridges the plain Directoire and the grander Empire. It kept a calm simplicity but began to add the crisp classical ornament that would soon define Napoleon’s reign.

This candlestick, attributed to the nineteenth century and in the Empire–Consulat style, shows that balance. A round base, edged with a fine band of leaves, rises to a slim column ringed with two narrow bands of leaf ornament. At the top, a turned, urn-shaped candle cup completes the form. The bright silver-tone finish reflects the light cleanly along every turned ring. The candlestick has since been converted into a table lamp, with a bulb holder fitted above the cup.

The lamp is in good condition. Like every lamp we sell, it is checked in our workshop before it is sent, so it arrives ready to use. With a simple shade of your choice, it makes an elegant light for a desk, a bedside table or a library.

In short, this is a vintage Empire–Consulat style candlestick table lamp in silver-tone metal, with leaf bands, attributed to the nineteenth century.
