vintage-french-maxant-paris-barograph-in-00156
Vintage French Maxant Paris Barograph in Wood and Glass Case, Recording Barometer with Clockwork Drum and Key, Desk Decor

Inside this glass-sided wooden case, a stack of silvered vacuum capsules rises and falls with the air pressure. A long, fine arm traces every change in ink onto a paper chart wrapped around a slowly turning drum, giving you a week of weather drawn as a single wandering line. The drum is driven by a clockwork movement, wound with the original key that sits inside it. The case is warm, polished wood with a brass carrying handle, a hinged glass lid and a small plaque reading “Ets. Maxant, 38 Rue Belgrand, Paris”. Instruments like this once recorded the weather in ships’ cabins, offices and laboratories. Today it’s a fascinating conversation piece for a study, a library or a desk, and a thoughtful gift for a sailor or a weather enthusiast.

Condition: Good Vintage Condition.
