vintage-gilt-bronze-double-wall-sconce-92296
Vintage Gilt Bronze Double Wall Sconce with Convex Witch’s Mirror, Swan and Flower Frame, Crossed Leaf Arms, Mid Century

At the heart of this sconce is a small convex “witch’s mirror”, a curved glass that reflects the whole room in miniature. French folklore says it was once hung to keep an eye on things and ward off bad luck. It sits in an oval gilt frame cast with two swans facing each other at the crown, curling scrolls, roses and a garland of flowers at the base. Below, two leaf-like arms with rope-twist edges cross at a starburst and sweep up to beaded candle cups with ivory sleeves. When lit, the candles reflect in the curved glass and double their glow. It’s a charming, slightly magical piece for a hallway, a bedroom or a gallery wall.

Condition: Very Good Vintage Condition, with a warm gilt finish and the mirror in good order.

Dimensions & Materials

Height: 7.9 in (20 cm)
Width: 9.8 in (25 cm)
Frame diameter: 5.1 in (13 cm)
Mirror diameter: 3.5 in (9 cm)
Weight: 1.1 lb (500 g)
Material: Gilt bronze, convex mirror glass
Includes: One double-arm wall sconce with mirror and two candle sleeves

Lampshade: Sold without shades, leaving you free to choose ones that suit your room.

Historical Period: Neoclassical revival style; circa mid-20th century.

Electrical: Carefully prepared and professionally rewired by our workshop before dispatch; tested and delivered ready to install.

Shipping & Duties: Every piece is hand-wrapped, securely packed and fully insured for its journey to you, wherever you are in the world.
