The neck is a tapering silver-tone metal mount, finished at the shoulder and on the ball stopper with bands of crossed ribbons tied around a reed. The crossed ribbon band is a classic Louis XVI ornament, borrowed from the ribbons used to tie bundles of reeds in ancient design. French silversmiths used it widely on table silver from the late 18th century onward.

The decanter is in very good vintage condition.
