vintage-louis-xvi-style-three-light-13664
Vintage Louis XVI Style Three-Light Bronze-Tone Torch Wall Sconce with Ribbon Bow Crest

A pleated ribbon tied in a bow seems to hold up a flaming torch, and three lights fan out from it. This sconce has enough presence to anchor a wall on its own, above a console table or at the head of a staircase.

At the top of the sconce is a crisply pleated ribbon bow. Its tails run down behind a fluted torch topped with carved flames. A small rosette and a trailing leaf garland decorate the shaft, and leafy bands finish the base. Three leaf-wrapped arms sweep out, two to the sides and one curving forward. Each holds a fluted cup with a beaded rim, a petal-shaped drip pan and a cream candle sleeve. The little flower on the torch is a rosette. It descends from the Roman patera, a shallow offering dish whose round, radiating shape Neoclassical designers turned into a favourite small ornament.

The sconce is in very good vintage condition, with an even, darkened bronze-tone patina and light wear to the high points. The old wiring reaches us as found, and it will be fully rewired in our workshop, ready to light a room for many years. Hang it above a fireplace, a console or a sideboard, where its height can be seen.

Rosette torch sconce: a vintage Louis XVI style three-light bronze-tone wall sconce with a ribbon bow crest, a fluted flame torch and beaded cups, rewired in our workshop and ready to install.

DETAILS

Size: H 47 cm (18.5 in) · W 31.5 cm (12.4 in)
Material: bronze-tone metal, candle sleeves
Style-Period: Louis XVI style · mid 20th century
Shipping: professionally packed, fully insured, worldwide · we handle the paperwork and pay all import duties · nothing to settle on delivery
Electrical: fully rewired in our workshop before dispatch · delivered working and ready to install · wall installation by a qualified electrician recommended
Condition: very good vintage condition · light wear to the patina on the high points
Lampshade: Sold without shades — small clip-on shades suit it
Returns: accepted within 30 days
Sold as: a single sconce
