vintage-napoleon-iii-style-patinated-19546
Vintage Napoleon III Style Patinated Metal Openwork Ornamental Cup on Pedestal, Pierced Scrolls and Flower Garlands

The bowl of this cup is pierced right through with scrolls, flowers and little garlands, so light shows through the pattern like lace in metal.

The cup is made of patinated metal, with a dark tone and green-grey highlights. The bowl has an openwork band of scrolls and flowers below a rim edged with small bosses. It sits on a short stem cast with flowers and fruit, above a round, ribbed, stepped base. Metalwork pierced through like this is called openwork. Because it can't hold water on its own, cups like this were usually fitted with a glass or metal liner, and used for flowers, fruit or a small potted plant.

The cup is in good vintage condition, with a darkened patina and green tones in the recesses. It has been part of other rooms for many years, and it's ready for a new one. Use it on a mantelpiece, a console or a dining table, with a glass liner for flowers, or a small pot inside.

Ornament summary: a patinated metal openwork cup on a pedestal, with pierced scrolls, flowers and a cast stem.

DETAILS

Size: Height 19 cm (7.5 in) — a little taller than a pint glass
Material: patinated metal
Style-Period: Napoleon III style · late 19th to early 20th century
Shipping: professionally packed, fully insured, worldwide · we handle the paperwork and pay all import duties · nothing to settle on delivery
Condition: good vintage condition · darkened patina with green tones
Returns: accepted within 30 days
