vintage-oval-wall-mirror-with-openwork-46301
Vintage Oval Wall Mirror with Openwork Scrolled Brass-Tone Frame, Baroque Hollywood Regency Style, 40 × 29 cm

For centuries, decorators have known that several small mirrors can do more than one large one. Hung together on a wall, they scatter light in many directions and turn a plain surface into something lively. The idea has come back today as the “mirror wall,” where a mix of vintage frames is grouped together, and ornate oval mirrors are among its favourite pieces.

This oval wall mirror would anchor such a wall or stand perfectly well on its own. The glass sits in a slim, smooth inner band, surrounded by a wide border of openwork scrolls, where the metal is cut right through so that the wall shows between the curls. This technique keeps an ornate frame from looking heavy. At the top, the scrolls rise into a small crest. The brass-tone frame has a warm patina, darker in the recesses, which brings out the depth of the pattern.

The mirror is in good vintage condition, with light signs of age and a few small green spots of verdigris on the frame. A sturdy cord on the back makes it easy to hang. It suits an entrance hall, a bedroom or a cloakroom, or a place in a gallery of vintage mirrors.

In short, this is a vintage oval wall mirror with an openwork scrolled brass-tone frame in the Baroque and Hollywood Regency style. It measures 40 × 29 cm and is exactly as pictured.

DETAILS

Size: 40 × 29 cm (15.7 × 11.4 in).
