Their soft, darkened tone shows a long life of use.

Each candlestick is made of brass-tone metal with a mellow patina. A fluted column rises from a leaf-wrapped knop on a round base cast with scrolling foliage and edged with a band of leaf tips. At the top, a collar of acanthus leaves sits beneath an urn-shaped nozzle with banded rims and a flat drip pan. An old Roman story tells how the sculptor Callimachus saw acanthus leaves growing up around a basket left on a young girl's grave. He used the shape for the top of a column, and the acanthus became the most copied leaf in Western decoration.

The candlesticks are in good vintage condition, with signs of use and an even, darkened patina.
