vintage-pair-of-louis-xv-rocaille-style-29118
Vintage Pair of Louis XV Rocaille Style Gilt Metal Wall Sconces, Scrolls and Foliage, Two Candle Lights Each, 26 cm

The decoration of the Louis XV period was built from a few simple shapes used with endless invention. Chief among them were the C-scroll and the S-scroll, curving lines that designers combined with leaves, flowers and shells to create the lively Rocaille style. Once you notice them, you see these scrolls everywhere in French decorative art, from mirror frames to door handles and light fittings.

This pair of wall sconces is in that Louis XV Rocaille style. Each one has a central body decorated with leaves and scrolls, crowned by a small pointed finial and finished with a leafy drop below. Two arms curve out in S-shaped scrolls to hold leaf-edged bobèches, each with a candle-style sleeve. The gilt finish highlights every curve and leaf, giving the sconces a warm glow even when switched off. They are sold as a complete pair.

The sconces are in good vintage condition. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use.
