vintage-pair-of-louis-xv-style-gilt-metal-63169
Vintage Pair of Louis XV Style Gilt Metal Wall Sconces with Faceted Glass Drops, Two Scrolled Arms Each, 36 cm

A small wall light can change the mood of a room through the shadows it casts as well as the light it gives. When glass drops hang beneath a lit sconce, each one throws a soft, patterned shadow and scatters small flecks of light across the wall behind. Decorators have long used this effect to make plain walls look richer and warmer in the evening, without adding a single extra lamp.

This pair of wall sconces creates exactly that effect, in the Louis XV style. Each has a central backplate shaped as a flowing scroll, rising to a leafy crest and tapering to a curling tail below. From a turned collar, two scrolled arms curve out to petal-edged drip pans holding drip-effect candle sleeves. Beneath the arms and the collar hang faceted glass drops, some shaped like leaves and some fixed by small glass rosettes. When the lights are on, they catch the glow and cast sparkling shadows on the wall. The gilt finish is bright and warm.

The sconces are in very good condition. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use. They suit a bedroom, a salon or either side of a mirror.

In short, this is a vintage pair of Louis XV style gilt metal wall sconces, with faceted glass drops and two scrolled arms each. Each measures 36 × 30 × 18 cm, and they are exactly as pictured.

DETAILS

Size: Height 36 cm (14.2 in); width 30 cm (11.8 in); projection from the wall 18 cm (7.1 in), each.
