A pair of wall lights was fixed on either side of it, or sometimes directly on the glass. The arrangement was carefully planned: the mirror caught and doubled the light, the fireplace below added its own glow, and the whole wall became the brightest, most important point in the room. Many French homes still light their mantelpieces in exactly this way.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis pair of wall sconces is made for that kind of setting, in the Louis XV style. Each has a tall, narrow backplate topped with a small flame finial and decorated at its centre with a curling C-scroll framed by leaves. A turned collar and a leafy drop finish the base. From the collar, two arms curl outward, each a sweeping scroll edged with acanthus leaves ending in a small spiral. They hold leaf-edged drip pans and candle cups fitted with drip-effect sleeves. The gilt finish is warm and even.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe sconces are in good vintage condition, as pictured. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use.
