vintage-pair-of-louis-xv-style-wall-56482
Vintage Pair of Louis XV Style Wall Sconces, Patinated Metal Baluster Body with Flame Finial, Two Candle Lights Each, 31 cm

Many classic French light fittings borrow their shapes from architecture. One favourite was the baluster, the small turned column used in the railings of grand staircases and terraces. Narrow at one end and swelling at the other, it gave designers an elegant, upright form to build on, and it appears on everything from candlesticks to wall lights.

This pair of wall sconces is built around that baluster shape. Each one has a tall central body shaped like a baluster, decorated with a scrolled cartouche and crowned with a small flame-shaped finial. Below, a turned drop finishes the base. Two arms curl out to each side in leafy C-shaped scrolls, the signature curve of the Louis XV style, and each holds a round bobèche with a candle-style sleeve. The metal has a warm, dark patina that brings out the depth of the ornament.

The sconces are in excellent vintage condition, with a natural patina. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use. They suit a dining room, a hallway or a classic living room, especially either side of a fireplace or a mirror.

In short, this is a vintage pair of Louis XV style wall sconces in patinated metal, with baluster bodies, flame finials and two candle lights each. Each measures 31 × 28 cm, and they are exactly as pictured.

DETAILS

Size: 31 × 28 cm (12.2 × 11 in) each.
