vintage-pair-of-mid-century-wall-sconces-88899
Vintage Pair of Mid-Century Wall Sconces, Brass and Black Metal with Frosted Ribbed Glass Shades, 24 cm

In the years after the war, European designers rethought the wall light. They kept it simple and graphic: a clean backplate, a short arm and a glass shade that gave soft, even light. Pairs of sconces like these lit hallways, bedrooms and living rooms in modern homes, and they still bring that crisp mid-century look to a room today.

This pair of wall sconces is in that style. Each one has a black backplate with gently curved sides, framing a brushed brass panel. A short brass arm holds a black cup, which carries a tall cylinder of frosted ribbed glass. The fine vertical ribs and the satin frosted finish spread the light evenly and hide the bulb, so the glass glows softly rather than shines. The contrast of black, brass and white glass gives the pair a sharp, elegant look.

The sconces are in very good condition. The metal shows light marks of age, and there are two small flaws in the glass. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use. They look best as a pair, on either side of a bed, a mirror or a doorway.

In short, this is a vintage pair of mid-century wall sconces in brass and black metal, with frosted ribbed glass shades.
