vintage-pair-of-wooden-bodied-decanters-68377
Vintage Pair of Wooden-Bodied Decanters with Glass Pouring Necks and Square Stoppers, Minimalist Barware, Lausanne Inscription, 27 cm

In the twentieth century, many designers tried to reduce everyday objects to their simplest form: a block, a cylinder, a plane, with nothing added. A decanter no longer needed cut facets or a shaped neck. A plain rectangle of wood with a flat square lid could say “bottle” just as clearly, and look quietly sculptural on a shelf when not in use.

This pair of liquor decanters, attributed to the twentieth century, is built on exactly that idea. Each is a tall, square column of warm-toned wood, with a short clear neck rising from the top. A flat square stopper, slightly wider than the body, sits on the neck like a cap. Cutting each body from a solid block lets the grain run straight down every face, so the wood itself is the only decoration. Set side by side, the two read almost as a small sculpture.

The pair is in good condition, with minor flaws consistent with age. We are glad to have looked after them and to send them on together. They suit a bar cart, a bookshelf or the corner of a desk, where their straight lines stand out against softer shapes.

In short, this is a vintage pair of minimalist wooden liquor decanters, attributed to the twentieth century, with square block bodies, clear necks and wooden stoppers. Each is 27 cm (10.6 in) tall, and they are sold exactly as pictured.

DETAILS

Size (each): Height 27 cm (10.6 in).
