Specialist workshops did this work for decades, and many of the best-made nineteenth-century candlesticks survive today because they were given this second life.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis candlestick, attributed to the nineteenth century and in the Restauration style, has been mounted in just that way. It stands on a triangular plinth with concave sides, supported by three lion-paw feet. These rise beneath a spray of acanthus leaves to a slender fluted column, bound at top and bottom by bands of beading and fine patterned decoration. Above a gadrooned collar sits a vase-shaped candle cup with a patterned band and a petal-edged drip pan. A brass bulb holder with a double ring is fitted on top, ready to take a lampshade.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe lamp is in good condition. It weighs 1 kg, so it stands steadily.
