vintage-set-of-three-louis-xv-rocaille-51535
Vintage Set of Three Louis XV Rocaille Style Wall Sconces, Gilt Metal Volutes and Foliage, Two Lights Each, 21 cm

A set of three wall lights opens up more possibilities than a pair. Two can frame a mirror or a fireplace while the third lights a doorway, or all three can run along a corridor or up a staircase, keeping the light even from one end to the other. Matching sets like this were made for rooms where light needed to travel.

This set of three wall sconces is in the Louis XV Rocaille style. Each one has a central backplate built from curling leaves and scrolls, from which two arms sweep out to hold leafy bobèches and candle sleeves. The spiral scrolls are known as volutes, from the Latin for “rolled.” They first appeared on the tops of ancient Ionic columns, and the Rocaille style made them its own. The gilt finish highlights the foliage against the darker arms.

The sconces are in good condition. We would like all three to stay together in one home. They are ideal for lighting a long corridor or a staircase, or for a pair plus one in a room with a fireplace and a doorway.

In short, this is a vintage set of three Louis XV Rocaille style wall sconces in gilt metal, with volutes, foliage and two lights each. Each measures 21 × 21 cm, and they are exactly as pictured.

DETAILS

Size: 21 × 21 cm (8.3 × 8.3 in) each.
