vintage-silver-tone-wine-bottle-coaster-03298
Vintage Silver-Tone Wine Bottle Coaster with Rope-Twist Rim and Wooden Base

A low silver-tone collar with a twisted rope rim and a wooden floor, made to cradle a wine bottle at the table: it's a small, practical piece of old-fashioned dining.

The coaster is a short, straight-sided cylinder of silver-tone metal with a plain polished wall, a raised rope-twist border around the top edge and a slim moulded band at the base. Inside, a turned wooden base sits at the bottom to rest the bottle on. Wine coasters first appeared on 18th-century English dining tables. Once the cloth was cleared after dinner, bottles and decanters sat in these little stands and were slid, or "coasted", from guest to guest across the polished wood without scratching it.

The coaster is in good vintage condition, with a bright shine. In places, small patches of the warm copper-coloured base metal show through the silver-tone finish. It's ready for the dinner table again, holding a bottle of wine, or it can work as a holder for a small potted plant or a catchall on a dresser.

Rope-rim coaster: a vintage silver-tone wine bottle coaster with a rope-twist rim and a turned wooden base.

DETAILS

Size: H 5.5 cm (2.2 in) · Ø 13 cm (5.1 in) · a little smaller than a saucer
Material: silver-tone metal, wooden base
Style-Period: Classic English style · mid 20th century
Shipping: professionally packed, fully insured, worldwide · we handle the paperwork and pay all import duties · nothing to settle on delivery
Condition: good vintage condition · copper-coloured base metal showing through the plating in places
Returns: accepted within 30 days
