vintage-small-hexagonal-brass-hall-69135
Vintage Small Hexagonal Brass Hall Lantern, Faceted Glass Diamond Shape with Rope-Twist Borders, Single Light, 32 cm

Before large sheets of glass were cheap to make, lanterns were built from many small panes. Each pane was held in a slim, grooved metal strip called a came, the same technique used for leaded windows. The result was a lantern that sparkled with facets, each pane catching the light at a slightly different angle.

This small hall lantern is built in that faceted way. Its shape is two six-sided pyramids joined at their widest point, like a cut gem, with each triangular face filled with a clear glass pane set in a slim brass frame. A rope-twist border runs around the widest band, and another edges the domed cap at the top. A loop of brass strip above the cap holds the hanging fixing, and a small six-sided foot finishes the base. Inside, a single bulb sends light down and out through every facet.

The lantern is in good vintage condition, with a softly tarnished patina on the brass. Like every lamp we sell, it is checked in our workshop before it is sent, so it arrives ready to install. Its compact size suits a cloakroom, a small entrance hall or a landing.

In short, this is a vintage small hexagonal brass hall lantern with a faceted glass diamond shape, rope-twist borders and a single light.
