vintage-stainless-steel-round-dish-with-65771
Vintage Stainless Steel Round Dish with Reeded Border, 16 cm Shallow Bowl, Catchall or Trinket Dish, Minimalist Tableware

In the middle of the last century, European tables quietly changed. Stainless steel moved from the professional kitchen into the dining room, valued for the same reasons good silver always was: it held its line, kept its shine with little care and lasted for generations. Tableware makers answered with pieces that borrowed the old silversmiths' proportions and borders but were made for everyday use.

This dish belongs to that tradition. It is a shallow round bowl with a broad, gently sloping well and a flat rim. The rim is finished with a reeded border, a band of fine parallel ribs pressed into the metal, an old silversmith's device that gives a plain form a crisp edge and catches light all the way around. The brushed satin finish of the well contrasts with that ribbed border.

The dish reaches us in very good condition, with the light scratches of everyday use on its surface. A well-made steel piece like this is meant to be used, and we are pleased to send it on to a table where it will be. It is the right size for a dressing table to hold rings and earrings, or for a desk or hall shelf as a home for keys and small things.

In short, this is a stainless steel round dish with a reeded border and a satin finish, small, practical and quietly elegant, exactly as pictured.

4.
