Antique Egyptian Revival Green Patina Bronze Inkwell, Canopic Jar Form with Pharaoh Head Lid, Ring Handles, Scalloped Tray
This inkwell takes the shape of an ancient Egyptian canopic jar, the vessel that once guarded treasures in a pharaoh’s tomb. Its lid is a calm, idealised head in a striped nemes headdress and headband, with the shoulders and chest modelled below. Lift the head and the urn beneath opens to hold ink. Small ring handles hang at each side of the slender urn, which rises on a short stem from a broad round tray. The tray’s rim is cut with regular notches to rest pens. A mottled green patina, warming to bronze on the face and headdress, gives it the look of an excavated antiquity. It’s a curious and characterful piece for a writing desk, a library or a cabinet of curiosities.
Condition: Good Antique Condition, with wear to the patina and marks of use consistent with age, as pictured.
