Pair of Antique French Empire Bronze Candlesticks, Fluted Columns with Acanthus Collars on Scroll Tripod Bases, Early 1800s
Each candlestick rises as a slender fluted column, cuffed top and bottom with crisp bands of acanthus leaves like a classical pillar. At the top, a capital of curling leaves carries a flared, leaf-cast candle cup with a beaded rim. At the foot, three bold acanthus scrolls curl outward to form a tripod. They stand on a triangular plinth with gently concave sides, which gives the pair a strong, architectural presence. The bronze has a warm, mellow gold tone, with darker shading deep in the flutes and leaves. They’re classic French neoclassical candlesticks from the years after the Revolution, handsome on a mantel, a sideboard or a candlelit table.
Condition: Good Antique Condition, with a natural patina and light wear consistent with age.
