Pair of Vintage Empire Style Gilt Bronze Crossed Arrow Wall Sconces, Two Arms with Bird Head Terminals, Mid-Century Lights
Two long arrows cross behind each sconce, feathered flights fanned at the top and sharp barbed points aimed at the floor, meeting at a round domed medallion with a beaded rim. From the medallion, two arms curl out and down like horns, each ending in a small cast bird’s head looking back toward the wall, before turning up into ribbed cups with frilled drip pans and ivory candle sleeves. It’s the bold, graphic language of the Empire style, when arrows and trophies decorated Napoleonic interiors. The gilding has softened to a warm, mellow gold. At almost 16 inches tall, they make a striking frame for a bed, a mirror or a doorway.
Condition: Good Vintage Condition, with a natural patina and light wear consistent with age.
