Vintage 1974 Jacquard Woven Wall Tapestry, Chasse Royale Royal Hunt Scene with Riders, Falcons and Hounds, Leaf Border, 68 in
A royal hunting party gathers by a woodland pool in this broad panoramic scene. On the left, riders in plumed hats rein in their horses at the water’s edge, one holding a falcon on his gloved fist, while spaniels splash and bound around them. In the centre, a young page offers a bird to an elegant lady seated side-saddle on a white horse. To the right, huntsmen rest beneath the trees with their greyhounds, and another rider rears his horse beyond. Golden oaks frame the scene beneath a soft, pale sky, all woven in mellow tones of honey, sage, rose and faded blue. A border of twisting acanthus leaves runs around the edge. At almost six feet wide, it’s a handsome, generous piece for above a sofa, a sideboard or a hunting lodge mantel.
