Vintage Louis XV Style Gilt Bronze Lantern with Curved Bombé Glass Panels, Shell Mounts and Twisted Stem, Rococo Hall Pendant
Three panels of softly curved glass swell outward like the belly of a vase, giving this lantern its graceful bombé, egg-like shape. Each panel is framed in gilt bronze that curls into rocaille scrolls at the shoulders, crowned with crisp shell mounts, and gathered below into scrolling feet and a small pendant finial. Above, a domed cap rises into a twisted, rope-like stem wrapped with acanthus, hanging from a fluted ceiling cup. Inside, candle lights glow through the curved glass, which bends and softens the light as it spreads around the room. The gilding has a warm, polished gold sheen. It’s an elegant fixture for an entrance hall, a stairwell or a landing.
Condition: Good Vintage Condition, with a warm gilt finish and light wear consistent with age, as pictured.
