Vintage Art Deco Bronze Lioness Sculpture, Prowling Big Cat with Head Raised on Black and Green Marble Base, Animalier Desk Decor
Head lifted and turned to one side, this lioness pauses mid-stride as if she’s caught a scent on the wind. Her shoulders roll forward, her back is long and supple, and her tail is held low behind her. The sculptor kept the forms smooth and simplified in the Art Deco manner, letting the strong line of the body carry the movement rather than fine fur detail. A warm, dark bronze patina, lifted to copper on the shoulders, haunches and face, brings out the muscle beneath. She stands on a rectangular block of black marble veined with white and deep green, raised on a slim metal plinth. It’s a handsome, compact piece for a desk or a bookshelf, and a fine gift for a Leo or a lover of big cats.
